Deliciously Inclusive: Vegan, Vegetarian & Gluten-Free Dining at The Royal George

A Menu That Welcomes All Diets

We know that sharing a meal should be effortless, whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or simply a lover of good food. Across our restaurants, you’ll find thoughtfully created dishes that celebrate variety, freshness, and flavour.

Our chefs work with nearby suppliers in Monmouthshire and the Wye Valley to source the best produce - heritage vegetables, foraged herbs, artisan cheeses, and local grains.

Vegan Delights: Plant-Based Dishes Crafted with Care

From our Lower Deck menu, vegans can enjoy tasty hummus with flatbread and vegetable sticks, or tuck into the Royal George Veggie Burger, layered with red pepper hummus, rocket, and vegan "cheddar".

Over in the Upper Deck, the Wild Mushrooms on Toast with brandy, confit garlic, and shallots is a standout vegan starter.

And if pizza is calling, the Garden's Vegetarian Pizza can be easily adapted to vegan, with oyster mushrooms, courgette, red pepper, and caramelised onion on a rich tomato base.

Vegetarian Favourites: Flavourful and Wholesome Choices

Vegetarians are spoiled for choice across all outlets too. In the Upper Deck, the Shallot, Leek, and Onion Tarte Tatin with goat’s curd and micro herb salad or the King Oyster Mushroom Risotto with sage crisps, pecorino, and herb salad both offer rich, hearty main options.

At the Garden, the Margherita pizza featuring tomato, mozzarella, and pecorino is a timeless favourite, while the White pizza with spinach, goat cheese, and caramelised onion is indulgent and comforting.

In the Café, try the Mozzarella Focaccia, or the classic Cave-Aged Cheddar toastie, both vegetarian staples.

Gluten-Free Goodness: Safe and Tasty Selections

Guests looking for gluten-free restaurants in Wales can dine confidently with us. Many dishes are marked gluten-free or available as gluten-free upon request (gfa).

In the Upper Deck, the Cornish Mackerel Fish Cake is gluten-free, while fresh grilled fish or meats can be served safely with gluten-free sides like honey-roasted carrots or rocket salad.

The Café menu is especially strong for gluten-free options, including the Severn & Wye Valley Smoked Salmon Bagel (gfa), Chargrilled Chicken & Lemon Mayonnaise Baguette (gfa), each made with fresh, wholesome ingredients. Even sweet treats like our Chocolate Brownie can be enjoyed gluten-free.

Unique Dining at The Royal George

Dining with us is about the experience as much as it is about the food. Our historic inn has been part of Tintern’s story since 1829, and is today home to four distinct dining outlets. Each offers its own atmosphere, from the relaxed pub vibe of the Lower Deck to the refined Upper Deck, sunny Garden, and cosy Café.

After your meal, take time to explore the Wye Valley. Enjoy a gentle walk around Tintern or a visit to the breathtaking Tintern Abbey, both just steps away. And for those wishing to extend their stay, our heritage rooms and garden suites offer the perfect countryside escape - you’re always welcome to stay at The Royal George.
